Role Description

Role Overview:

The Site Manager supports the Contracts Manager in managing the construction process and delivery of DDI construction projects to achieve client satisfaction and cost/quality control. It is a very active role, ensuring the correct completion of works is carried out and working methods are performed correctly.  A critical responsibility of the Site Manager is to ensure the Company’s obligations on Health and Safety and associated Health and Safety Legislation are met, and safe working practices are actively encouraged across all aspects of the construction.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Environment:

  • To understand and implement the DDI company HS&E Policy & Site Rules

  • To ensure all works are carried out by appropriately trained/experienced people

  • To undertake site‐specific risk assessments and ensure the operatives under your control understand the risk assessment process and safe system of work to be implemented

  • Report and investigate any accidents, incidents and near misses in line with the DDI company policy

  • Ensure all SHE information/instructions are cascaded down to the site operatives – i.e. Site Information Boards, Fire Plans, Toolbox Talks

  • Manage the site welfare facilities, including all security arrangements as deemed necessary.

  • Create and manage the site waste management plan

  • Complete and maintain the site diary & visitor book

  • Lead by example, demonstrate awareness of personal health and safety and that of others

 

Work Planning & Management:

  • Identify project related risks and ensure that all appropriate RAMS are produced, either internally or from appointed subcontractors

  • Maintain accurate records: inductions, works audit (photographic & written), drawing register, timesheets, HSE records, delivery sheets etc

  • Assist Contracts Manager in working to and reporting against the construction programme

  • Manage the works so that they are completed on time, budget and to the standard required

  • Organising and manage any labour on site, including organising agency labour

  • Organise and liaise with the supply chain to meet agreed targets and programmes

  • Manage critical path materials which are required to maintain the works programme

  • Assist QS in procurement of materials from the supply chain including any relevant material take-offs, scheduling and requisitions

  • Assist in producing, CVI/RFI to ensure that all variations/changes to the contract are recorded

  • Attend regular site meetings with the project team, report on progress/performance, and assist in identifying issues that are or are likely to cause delay to the works programme

  • Identify snagging items throughout the course of the project and arrange for them to be rectified prior to completion of the works

  • Arrange any visits required by third parties e.g. Building Control

Quality:

  • Ensure that ITPs are produced

  • Alongside Site Manager, identify and rectify snagging throughout project to ensure resolution prior to works completion

  • Ensure that the QA file is produced and maintained. Establish and promote best practice

 

Client Care & Communication:

  • Setup and run daily/weekly briefing with client site managers and staff

  • Ensure site signage, traffic management and any pedestrian segregation required in in place as per plans. Review and adjust as required regularly

  • Ensure large vehicle deliveries are planned well in advance and are ‘just in time’ in line with DDI philosophy

  • Report regularly to the Contracts Manager on project progress, subcontractor performance, material availability and any other issue that may affect project milestones

Skills and Competencies:

Essential:

  • Five to Ten years Previous experience with development in the retail and leisure sectors

  • Degree, NVQ or HND qualified.  SMSTS and CSCS qualified

  • Excellent communication and people management skills

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritise, manage and organise workload across a range of directly employed and sub-contract trades

  • On site management and implementation of health and safety and risk awareness procedure

  • Extensive experience of the build process and cost / quality control practices

  • Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints

  • Experience of MS Office, MS Project

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, very good organizational and leadership skills

  • Problem solving, analytical thinking and time management skills

 

Desirable:

  • First Aid at Work (4-day)

  • Experience of working to Lean construction philosophy
